A device for conducting integrated sequential separation and enrichment of a mixture of sample proteins, comprising means for separation and means for enrichment, whereby free flow electrophoresis - isoelectric focussing (FFE- IEF), is arranged to take place within an etched system of basins and channe ls is preferably employed in the separation step, multichannel conduits are use d to guide the separated protein fractions to the enrichment stage, and a soli d phase micro-extraction procedure, in an optionally dockable format, is preferably employed in the enrichment step. The separated fractions are then preferably dispensed onto a MALDI-plate for subsequent matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation (MALDI) analysis.
