<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a decrease in contrast due to an alignment defect. <P>SOLUTION: In a simple matrix type liquid crystal display element 1, the rubbing direction DR1 of a 1st alignment layer 7 forms an angle of ≤45° with the length direction DX of a 1st electrode below the 1st alignment layer 7. A 1st muntin part 23 which covers a 1st inter-electrode gap among longitudinal and lateral muntin parts of a lattice-shaped shading film 6 becomes larger reversely to the rubbing direction DR1 of the 1st alignment layer 7 to cover a side edge part of the 1st electrode 5 on the opposite side from the 1st inter- electrode gap 25. The width WY of the 1st muntin part 23 of the shading film 25 is large than the width WZ of the 1st inter-electrode gap 25 and the distance WY2 from the opposite-side end of the muntin part 23 to the opposite-side end of the 1st inter-electrode gap 25 is larger than the 1st inter-electrode gap width WZ. Consequently, light is prevented from a leaking owing to an alignment defect resulting from transfer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
