摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat belt device having a pre-tensioner that, after the prediction of a collision, makes the tension of a seat belt before the collision variable to improve occupant protection. <P>SOLUTION: The seat belt device comprises an obstacle detecting means 10 for detecting an obstacle around a vehicle, a collision predicting means 21 for predicting the collision possibility of the vehicle against the obstacle based on a detection signal from the obstacle detecting means 10, and a pre- tensioner controlling means 22 for controlling the driving of a pre-tensioner device 40 so as to wind the seat belt before the collision on receiving the collision prediction from the collision predicting means 21. The pre-tensioner device 40 has tension set in multi stages for winding the seat belt, and the pre-tensioner controlling means 22 changes the tension in response to a collision prediction level by the collision predicting means 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p>
