PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for a polyester-based heat shrinkable film excellent in impact resistance, low temperature shrink properties, hot water resistance and heat resistance, and to provide a heat shrinkable film made from the same. SOLUTION: The polyester resin for the heat shrinkable film has a dicarboxylic acid constitutional unit and a diol constitutional unit, wherein at least (1) 1-60 mol% of the dicarboxylic acid constitutional unit is a dicarboxylic acid unit having a cyclic acetal backbone, or (2) 1-60 mol% of the diol constitutional unit is a diol unit having the cyclic acetal backbone.
