PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercalated clay, particularly an intercalated clay comprising a component compatible with a matrix copolymer which can disperse the clay, and to provide a product containing the matrix polymer and the intercalated clay, wherein the intercalated clay comprises a component compatible with the matrix copolymer. SOLUTION: The intercalated clay is sandwiched with a block copolymer, wherein the block copolymer contains a hydrophilic block unit. Another product comprises a matrix copolymer and a clay sandwiched with a block copolymer, wherein the block copolymer contains a hydrophilic block unit and the block unit compatible with the matrix copolymer.
