PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet recorder ejecting an ink drop idly to a nonrecording area at the time of nonrecording in which an ink drop can be ejected idly in a short time and idly ejected ink can be reused while reducing the size of the recorder. SOLUTION: A recording head section is provided at a rotating drum section, an ink receiving section, an ink supply section and a head preserving section are arranged on the circumference thereof and the moving direction of the recording head section is aligned with that of a recording medium carrying section. At the time recording, a drum section provided with the recording head section is movable in the axial direction of the drum section. The ink receiving section and the ink supply section are integrated and the head preserving section comprising the cap and the cleaning roll of nozzles is arranged contiguously to the drum section provided with the recording head section. Furthermore, a plurality of recording head sections of different ink color are provided at the drum section and the same number of ink receiving sections corresponding to the ink colors at respective recording head sections are provided.
