PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin for a wet friction material which gives a wet friction material excellent in durability, a process for producing the resin, and a wet friction material excellent in durability. SOLUTION: The resin for the wet friction material is obtained by reacting a phenol with an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst, of which the main material comprises a water-soluble phenolic resin. In the process for producing the resin, a phenol is reacted with an aldehyde in the presence of a basic catalyst to a prescribed water-multiplication factor to give a water-soluble phenolic resin. The wet friction material is characterized in that a base material is impregnated with the resin for the wet friction material. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
