The invention relates to a security device for a card reader (16) which is used by an automaton in charge of performing an operation. The inventive device comprises a sealing tube (20) which is equipped with two non-diametrically opposed, axial windows of different widths; one inlet (36) and one outlet (38). Said tube can be placed in several different positions, namely: (i) a closed position, in which the inlet window (36) blocks access to any object having a dimension other than that of a standard card; (ii) a semi-open position, in which the inlet window (36) allows the introduction of a standard size card into the tube; or (iii) a fully open position, in which the outlet window (38) authorises the sending of a standard card (14), which is equipped with a magnetic track and/or an electronic chip, to the reader (16).
