This invention provides a simple yet effective means of damping out vibrations in floor polishing machines. The invention teaches the use of a circular or toroidal damping element 20 disposed between the work head and the body of a floor polishing machine, said toroidal or damping element 20 comprising a flexible walled container filled with a fluid. The fluid may be a gas or liquid or mixture and the pressure of the gas and/or the viscosity of the liquid and the degree of resilience and flexibility of the wall of the flexible walled container 20 can be selected to produce the desired level of damping required for the particular machine.
