A seal (16) closes a gap between the flat glass or plastic plate (12) and an edge of a body opening and is attached to the plate by plastic foam (14) which is molded in position. A fastening section (22) of the seal is pressed by the foam onto the inner surface (24) of the plate leaving a sealing section (20) of the seal flush with the outer surface (18) of the plate. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a process for assembling the plate (12) and seal (16) in which both are placed in a foaming tool, the sealing section (20) of the seal is held flush with the outer face (18) of the plate and foam is introduced to push the fastening section (22) of the seal onto the inner surface (24) of the plate; (b) process equipment including a foaming tool with two halves, one of which molds the foam (14) and has a projection for pressing the sealing section against the inner surface of the plate while the other tool half has an area for holding the sealing section flush with the outer face of the plate.
