PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cloth end cutting device for a sewing machine capable of facilitating the return of a cutting knife on a drive side from a cutting non- operation position to a cutting operation position and automatically securing an excellent contact pressure between a first cutting knife and a second cutting knife when returning the cutting knife on the drive side to the cutting operation position. SOLUTION: In the cloth end cutting device 41 for the sewing machine, the end part of cloth to be sewn is cut by the cooperation of the first cutting knife 43 equipped near a needle location position of the sewing machine and the second cutting knife 45 vertically moved to the first cutting knife 43. By providing one of the cutting knives with a knife separating mechanism 71 retreating to a standby position separated in the direction of opening the engaging pressure of the knives with each other when the second cutting knife 45 is withdrawn to an upper cutting non-operation position and canceling the retreat to the standby position when the second cutting knife 45 returns to a cutting operation position, the need of adjusting a knife position by manual work by an operator at the time of returning to the cutting operation position is eliminated.
