PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of surface treatment, such as descaling, rust removal or surface roughing of wires and bars having excellent surface finish, in which a space for the surface treatment is compact, and further a special technique is not required. SOLUTION: In the method of mechanical surface treatment for wires and bars, processes of descaling, rust removal or surface roughing for the wires and bars by shot blasting are carried out such that amorphous fine grains having the hardness of 900 to 1,000 Hv that is higher than the surface hardness of a workpiece and the Young's modulus of 6.37×104to 9.8×104MPa are blasted in the direction from the outer periphery of the wire or bar toward the surface of the workpiece.
