[Also in Division A4] A laminate comprises a ceramic layer having bonded to each surface thereof a layer of fabric impregnated with a silicone rubber. The ceramic layer may be coated on each face with an impact adhesive to which is bonded a fabric, e.g. woven fibreglass cloth, impregnated with the silicone rubber, e.g. by spraying, dipping or brushing, the solvents of which are evaporated. The laminate may be rolled and stapled or stitched by machining in a quilted pattern form. A plurality of the laminates may be laid one on top of another and bonded together in such a manner that the stitching or stapling in any laminate does not coincide with that of an adjacent laminate. The external faces of the laminate or assembly of laminates may have applied thereto additional components, e.g. aluminium foil, by plating metallization spraying or adhesion. The ceramic layer, which may contain fibres, may be in powder, paste or sheet form and may comprise china clay or other processed mineral ore, preferably containing aluminium silicate. The laminate may be used for cladding the interior or exterior surfaces of aircraft, vehicles, ships, buildings, machinery, instruments or kiosks, for packing cases or containers, for protective clothing, e.g. suits, aprons, headgear, gloves, and in the manufacture of waste disposal containers. |
