PURPOSE: A control method of an air conditioner is provided to maximize performance of power saving function. CONSTITUTION: A method includes the steps of: a temperature difference calculating step(S120) calculating difference between a set temperature set by a user and current indoor temperature; a maximum frequency operating step(S130,S140) operating a compressor of an air conditioner at maximum frequency if the difference of temperature in the temperature difference calculating step is larger than preset reference value; a power saving operation determining step(S160,S170,S180,S190,S200) determining whether power saving operation is to be executed based on difference of temperature after fixed time has passed during the maximum frequency operation; and a power saving operation step operating the compressor at preset operating frequency depending on result of the power saving operation determining step. The compressor is operated at fixed operating frequency regardless of the set temperature if the compressor works at the maximum frequency operating over the fixed time.
