An ultra-wideband (UWB) home wireless network comprises a plurality of UWB devices each forming a node of the network, pairs of UWB devices being configured for bidirectional communication using one of a plurality of UWB channels. A device controller stores connection data in a connection table for forwarding incoming data packets to further devices using multiple hops. Each packet contains channel identification data used by a node to determine a channel for forwarding the packet. The controller may have a separate control and data bus. A new device initiated to the network broadcasts an alert to other devices. A response causes the new device to modify its device identifier since this identifier is already in use.
