<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create higher catalytic activity from an alloy catalyst and to provide an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst having both of significantly improved thermal resistance and low temperature activity. <P>SOLUTION: A method of producing the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst comprises adsorbing/fixing a complex of a first metal on an oxide carrier, and after reductively depositing a second metal, firing so as to form an alloy catalyst containing the first metal and the second metal. Preferably, the first metal is Pt and the second metal is Rh. In another embodiment, the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst is a catalyst obtained by supporting a Pt alloy on the oxide carrier, and the Pt in the Pt alloy has a bond energy of 4d<SB>5</SB>orbital electron lower than that of 4d<SB>5</SB>orbital electron of Pt metal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
