<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitation apparatus for a sewage treating tank, which has a scum accumulation preventing function in itself without necessitating the installation of a separate scum removing equipment and by which sewage can be treated effectively at a low cost by circulating carriers efficiently. <P>SOLUTION: A propeller 7 is fitted with a rotary shaft of a vertical submergible motor 6 rotatable normally and reversely in the sewage treating tank 1. The front and back edges of each blade of the impeller 7 are formed into projecting circular-arc shapes, respectively. When the motor 6 is rotated normally, a downward water current for agitating the sewage in the tank 1 is generated.
