PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest adjusting mechanism which can be suitably used for a folding wheelchair and to provide a wheelchair used therefor. SOLUTION: A back frame of the wheelchair is coupled to a side frame rotatably in an advancing direction of the wheelchair at an intermediate part of a back frame, a female screw member rotatably grasped by a lower end of the back frame is threadably engaged with a rotatable bolt extended in the advancing direction of the wheelchair without positional change. When the bolt is rotated, the screw member is longitudinally moved along the bolt. Since the screw member is grasped by the lower end of the back frame, the back frame itself is resultantly rotated at a rotary shaft as a center. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
