A transmitter (30) for a tire condition monitoring apparatus (1), which is powered by a battery (36). The transmitter (30) includes a sensor (32, 33) for periodically detecting the condition of the tire (20), a transmission circuit (34) for wirelessly transmitting data representing the detected tire condition, and a controller (31) for controlling the sensor (32, 33) and the transmission circuit (34). When the detected tire condition is abnormal, the controller (31) shortens the detection interval of the sensor (32, 33).
