The catalytic converter operation control method for a motor vehicle involves operating the converter (24) by fuel injection into the vehicle exhaust (22). A parameter of the heat released by the converter as an oxidation reaction occurs is used as control data. The operating temperature of the converter is monitored and the fuel is injected at a temperature corresponding to a start value for correct functioning.
