摘要 PURPOSE: A variable length encoder for low power is provided to reduce the power consumption by operating selectively a Huffman code storage portion according to a bit stream of low frequency. CONSTITUTION: A variable length encoder includes a signal detection portion(100), a variable length encoder(200), a Huffman code storage portion(300), a signal selection portion(400), a multiplexer portion(500), and a code output portion(600). The signal detection portion outputs respectively a bit stream of low frequency, and it outputs a bit stream of high frequency after performing a Huffman coding process for the bit stream of high frequency. The variable length encoder is used for encoding the bit stream of low frequency. The Huffman code storage portion stores Huffman codes corresponding to output signals of the variable length decoder. The signal selection portion outputs similar Huffman codes corresponding to the output signals of the variable length decoder when the Huffman code storage portion does not have the corresponding Huffman codes. The multiplexer portion receives the output of the signal detection portion and the output of the Huffman code storage portion. The code output portion converts the output of the Huffman code storage portion.
