PURPOSE: A reciprocation type position detector for a rotary kiln is provided to continuously measure a position of the rotary kiln when the rotary kiln is reciprocated in an axial direction thereof. CONSTITUTION: A reciprocation type position detector includes a moving section, a fixing section and a control section. The moving section has moving rollers(301a,301b), a plurality of touch bars(307a,307d), and a moving plate(309). The moving rollers(301a,301b) make contact with lateral portions of tires in order to axially move together with a rotary kiln. The fixing section includes a plurality of supporting rollers(305a,305b) fixed to a base(310) so as to support a lower surface of the moving plate(309). A plurality of guide rollers(306a,306b) are fixed to the base(310) so as to support a lateral portion of the moving plate(309). A position detector(314) is installed on a rotating shaft of the supporting rollers(305a,305b). A plurality of limit sensors(308a,308d) are fixed to the base(310) so as to transmit signals to the control section.
