PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing wire rod for spring steel without ferrite decarburized layer is provided to improve deformation resistance and fatigue strength of conventional wire rod for spring steel. CONSTITUTION: The method includes the steps of reheating a steel billet comprising C 0.4 to 0.6 wt.%, Si 1.3 to 1.6 wt.%, Mn 0.5 to 0.7 wt.%, Cr 0.4 to 0.7 wt.%, a balance of Fe and incidental impurities up to 1000 deg.C for 120 to 150 min; rough rolling the steel billet at 980 to 1000°C; cooling the wire rod obtained in above step to 830 to 850°C, followed by finish hot rolling; cooling the finish hot rolled wire rod to 800 to 830°C; cooling it to 730 to 770°C, followed by coiling; and cooling the wire rod coil to 720°C, followed by air cooling to room temperature.
