Automatic infant safety gate/barrier

An automatic safety barrier/gate comprising of a frame 6, mounted vertically to a wall/fixed structure 10 by pressure mounts 8. An IR proximity sensor 2 detects the presence of an adult or older child who wishes to pass through the safety gate/barrier and sends a signal to the drive mechanism 1. The drive mechanism 1 rotates linkage 12 which engages with the lock cable 13 that retracts lock bolt 4 from lock receptor 5. Linkage 12 also opens barrier 7 by applying a force generated by the drive mechanism 1. During the opening of barrier 7 torsion energy is stored in a closing spring 14 that closes barrier 7 after the drive mechanism 1 ceases to be activate. The barrier may also include an audible warning alarm which sounds during operation. The drive mechanism may also include a motor 18 and planetary gear system 18 but is able to be manually overidden by Manual overide handle 3.
