PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, when a welding torch lengthens about 1 [m] long, a feed reversing delayed time Ta of a re-advance feeding time (t4) becomes longer and arc length Lw is largely overshot to deteriorate welding quality, in an arc start control method, wherein an initial current (Is) is made to flow and also a welding wire is withdrawn from a base material when it is decided that the welding wire 1 is advanced and comes into contact with the base material (t2), and the welding wire is advanced again and also a stationary welding current (Ic) is made to flow and shifted to a stationary arc 3 after the welding wire leaves the base material by the withdrawal and the initial arc 3a is generated (t4). SOLUTION: By advancing the welding wire at an initial high speed feeding speed Fsh faster than a steady feeding speed Fs from the start point of the re-advance feeding to a predetermined initial high speed feeding time Th, the delayed time Ta is shortened, the overshoot of the arc length is reduced to prevent the deterioration of the welding quality.
