PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently treating waste water of paper making in the case of difficult solid-liquid separation particularly due to contamination of waste water in production of mechanical pulp and in recycling of used paper. SOLUTION: A mixture of a cationic water-soluble polymer (A) containing 5 to 100 mol% one of specified cationic structural units and 0 to 95 mol% nonionic structural unit and an amphoteric water-soluble polymer (B) containing 5 to 70 mol% one of specified cationic structural units, 5 to 50 mol% anionic structural unit and 0 to 90 mol% nonionic structural unit is used in combination with an anionic water-soluble polymer.
