PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an animal the recovery of the liver of which is retarded compared to that of a normal animal after administration of hepatotoxin. SOLUTION: This oncostatin M-receptor gene-deficient animal (except a human being) has a destroyed oncostatin M-receptor (OSMR) gene. When hepatopathy is induced in the OSMR gene-deficient animal by administering the hepatotoxin, the recovery of the induced hepatopathy is significantly retarded compared to that of the normal animal, and the damage is in a wide range and worsened. As a result, the animal obtained by administering the hepatotoxin to the OSMR gene-deficient animal to induce the hepatopathy is useful as a hepatopathy model, and considered to display its greatest force for evaluation of a medicament for the hepatopathy, search of a liver regeneration-promoting factor or evaluation of transplantation of a hepatocyte.
