A differential assembly 10 has a hypoid ring gear 16 driven by hypoid pinion gear 12 and contains pinion gears 24,24' which rotate about a differential pin 40. The pin 40 extends diametrically across the hypoid ring gear 16 with its ends in received in cavities 42. A hole 43 may be provided in the pin ends so the pin can be locked to the ring gear 16 via a roll pin (50, fig 4). Each end of the differential pin 40 may have a pair of flat parallel surfaces 46, the distance between which is narrow enough allow the pin 40 to enter the cavities 42 though openings (45, fig 4) in the side of the ring gear 16, so that when the pin 40 is rotated 90{ about its longitudinal axis, the pin is secured in the cavity as the width of the openings (45, fig 4) is smaller than the diameter of the pin 40. |
