PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new strainer for removing not only foreign matter in a liquid but also the foreign matter sticking to a filter element extremely effectively without taking out the filter element. SOLUTION: This strainer is provided with a filtering tank 2 having an inflow pipe nozzle 6 for making the liquid flow in the tank 2, an outflow pipe nozzle 8 for making a filtrate flow out of the tank 2, and a discharge pipe part 7 for discharging foreign matter, the cylindrical filter element 3 fixed to the inside of the tank 2, and one or several driven blades 25, 26 which are arranged on the inner or outer peripheral side of the element 3 and rotary-driven in the direction to go around the element 3 for moving the liquid in the tank 2 to the outside or inside of the element 3 by the driving force.
