PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel rotary drum type fermentation apparatus exhibiting the improved efficiency of the discharge of a material to be treated wherein a compost manufacture line on and after the rotary drum type fermentation apparatus is efficiently operated and the rotation of a rotary drum is stabilized by stationarily and quantitatively carrying out the discharge of the material to be treated. SOLUTION: A storage space 50 for the material-to-be-treated discharged from a discharge port 21 is formed in a discharge side fixed drum 5 and a discharge apparatus 7 communicating with the storage space 50 is provided out of a place right under the storage space 50 in the drum 5. Because compost C discharged from the rotary drum 2 is accumulated in the storage space 50, the supply of the compost C to the next process is continued even when the compost C is not discharged from the rotary drum 2 for a long period of time.
