PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an endoscope not causing no disconnection of a signal cord and capable of housing the signal cord in the universal cord part. SOLUTION: The endoscope comprises an object optical system provided to the distal end of an insertion part, an image guide fiber bundle for transmitting an optical image incident from the object optical system, the solid-state image pickup element arranged in opposed relation to the other end surface of a relay optical system and having an image pickup surface for picking up the optical image emitted from the base end surface of the relay optical system and the signal cable passing through the universal cord part to be electrically connected to the solid-state image pickup element. This endoscope has a substrate plate equipped with an image pickup element fixing part to which the solid-state image pickup element is fixed and a signal cord fixing part to which the signal cable is fixed so as to extend toward the universal cord part.
