PURPOSE: A data processing apparatus for inter-different transmission media is provided to modularize a main board for processing data, irrespective of the transmission media and interface boards for interface with a system in which a transmission distance is varied. CONSTITUTION: A main board(200) receives data with a frame unit, recomposes the received data with the frame unit into data with an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cell unit, and processes the ATM cell data. The main board(200) recomposes processed ATM cell data into data with the frame unit, and outputs the data with frame unit. Interface boards(300,400) receive the data with the frame unit, which are outputted from the main board(200), encode the received data into signal formats of transmission media connected to the interface boards(300,400), isolate a harmful signal from the encoded data, and output the data to the transmission media. The interface boards(300,400) receive encoded data from the transmission media, isolate a harmful signal from the received data, decode the data into a signal format of the main board(200), and output the decoded data to the main board(200).
