PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cell multi-link and a method therefor are provided to optimize the use efficiency of a communication link by performing an inter-processor communication and efficiently using an ATM UNI(User Network Interface) communication link with a reference cell transmission standard. CONSTITUTION: A transmission path selection table storing unit(36) stores address information of a transmission processor which transmits cell data, and stores relation with a transmission node of a processor corresponding to address information. A reception path selection table storing unit(34) stores address information of a reception processor which receives the cell data, and stores relation with a reception node of a processor corresponding to address information. An internal cell memory(32) stores cell data for an inter-processor communication. If cell data are transmitted from a random processor, a transmission cell control unit(35) detects a transmission path address from header information of the cell data, and decides a transmission path node corresponding to a destination processor from the transmission path address with reference to the transmission path selection table storing unit(36). If the transmission path node is another processor, the transmission cell control unit(35) stores the cell data in the internal cell memory(32). A reception cell control unit(33) reads cell data stored in the internal cell memory(32), and detects a reception path address from header information of the read cell data. The reception cell control unit(33) decides a reception path node corresponding to a destination processor from the reception path address with reference to the reception path selection table storing unit(34), and transmits the cell data to a processor corresponding to the reception path node.
