<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method which changes refraction characteristics of eyes with the photodestruction of interstitial tissues by positioning the focus of a laser beam within the interstitial pellicle while maintaining the focus at a site within the interstitial pellicle. <P>SOLUTION: In order to maintain the focus within a lamella 50, air bubbles generated by the photodestruction are measured using a wavefront detector 16. The detection of large air bubbles indicates that the photodestruction was conducted in the interface 58 between the pellicle layers. In this case, the depth of the focus measured from the anterior surfaces of eye balls is adjusted to continue the photodestruction within the pellicle. The proceeding of photodestruction treatment is traced using the wavefront detector 16 to update the data of the quantity and the sites of the interstitial tissues required to be removed for the realization of the refraction as a goal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
