METHOD FOR DETECTING MATERIAL CAUSING DAMAGE TO DNA METABOLIC SYSTEM BY UTILIZING PHAGE LYSOGENIC BACTERIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating activities for causing damage to a DNA metabolic system in a compound, and further to provide a method for screening an antimicrobial agent or an anticancer agent targeting the metabolic system by utilizing the method.

SOLUTION: A prophage is induced by the damage of the DNA metabolic system such as the cleavage of a DNA double strand in a phage lysogenic bacterium while accompanying bacteriolysis. This method for evaluating the presence or absence of activities for causing the damage to the DNA metabolic system in a specimen comprises expressing a reporter gene in the phage lysogenic bacterium, and using the activities of the reporter gene product released by the bacteriolysis accompanied by the induction of the prophage as an indicator. The screening of the antimicrobial agent or the anticancer agent is enabled by utilizing the evaluation method.
