PURPOSE: An apparatus for reducing noise of a reciprocating compressor is provided to reduce knocking sound of a discharge valve. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a cylinder(110) inserted and fixed to a frame unit, forming a compression space(P) formed therein, and having a plurality of buffer grooves(112a) formed on a front end side(112) thereof; a piston(42) slid into the compression space of the cylinder, and linearly reciprocating together with a mover of a reciprocating motor to vary volume of the compression space; and a discharge valve assembly(120) mounted on the front end side of the cylinder to open and close the compression space of the cylinder when the piston reciprocates. The buffer grooves are formed on the front end side of the cylinder in circumferential direction at regular intervals. Severe collision of a discharge valve(122) of the discharge valve assembly against the front end side of the cylinder due to sudden closing of the discharge valve is prevented by force of compressed gas charged in the buffer grooves during discharge of the compressed gas.
