PURPOSE: An energy absorbing device of a steering column for a vehicle is provided to absorb shock gradually by forming the steering column with a single tube and adjusting a cutting groove and a cutting hole, and to cut down manufacturing cost by simplifying the structure. CONSTITUTION: A steering column(10) is composed of a hollow tube(20), and a lower bracket(30) surrounding the outside of the tube to fasten the tube to the vehicle body. A deformation unit is formed at the side of the tube and connected to the lower bracket fixed in the vehicle body to be curled up axially when shock is applied. A support part(40) is extended downward at both sides of the lower bracket and a guide part(60) is formed at both sides of the tube arranged in the support part. A tearing hole(70) is formed by connecting a plurality of holes to each other penetrating the tube.
