PURPOSE: A PVC(Permanent Virtual Circuit) connection setting method in an ATM exchange is provided to restore inconsistency of PVC connection information and process an ATM traffic by allowing a traffic controller to compare PVC connection information of an interface unit with its own PVC connection information and correct the inconsistent PVC connection information of an interface unit. CONSTITUTION: A traffic controller receives PVC connection set information, transfers it to an interface unit to set a PVC connection, and processes an ATM traffic through the set PVC connection(S41). The traffic controller checks whether a new PVC connection has not been set in the interface unit or whether a PVC connection setting itself is refused in order to judge whether there is information-inconsistent PVC connection with respect to the interface unit(S42). When the traffic controller judges that inconsistency of PVC connection information, it transfers a message requesting transmission of every PVC connection information to the interface unit(S43). When the traffic controller receives the PVC connection information message from the interface unit, it temporarily stores the message in order in a memory, and compares the PVC connection information of the interface unit stored in the memory with its own PVC connection information(S44). The traffic controller detects PVC connection information of the interface unit which is not consistent with its own PVC connection information, and requests the interface unit to correct the detected PVC connection information(S45). The traffic controller has the interface unit change the inconsistent PVC connection information, or deletes or sets the corresponding PVC connection to restore the inconsistency of the PVC connection information, and continuously processes an ATM traffic.
