<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe catheter having a needle tip protector for automatically covering the tip of the needle when the needle is pulled to prevent the needle from pricking a doctor. <P>SOLUTION: A catheter and introducer needle assembly has a needle attached to a needle hub and an enlarged area disposed thereon, and a tubular catheter. The introducer needle is coaxially received within the catheter. The device has a hollow catheter hub attached to the catheter and in a fluid communication therewith. The catheter hub has an interior having a raised annular rib disposed thereon. The assembly has a needle tip protector disposed within the catheter hub and the needle tip protector has at least one lip portion extending in a radial direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
