PURPOSE: A billet for wire rod rolling is provided which is processed in advance to prevent crops generated on the front end of workpiece during initial wire rod rolling. CONSTITUTION: In a billet(11) used in wire rod rolling, the billet for wire rod rolling is characterized in that chamfering parts(10,10') are formed along the edge of the front surface on a front surface of the billet being advanced into wire rod rolling line, wherein the chamfering parts of the billet are formed along the edge of the front surface on the front surface of the billet as a whole, and wherein the front surface of the billet is formed in a tetragonal shape, and vertex parts become chamfering parts(10,10') along the edge of the front surface of the billet(11).
