The invention relates to a process for preparing highly pure bisphenol A by a continuous or non-continuous distillation. The resulting fused mass of p, p-bisphenol Ahas thermal and storage stability, fastness of colour, it is free of high boiling point components and does not contain surfactants or non-distillable metals, salts, acids, polymers or sulphur-containing components. The o,p-bisphenol A and the phenol are separated and the components having a reduced boiling point are almost undetectable. The purified product is used as intermediary product for preparing polymers.
