PURPOSE: A method for measuring a surface roughness of a cold rolled steel sheet is provided to precisely measure the surface roughness of the cold rolled steel sheet by simultaneously measuring intensity of a reflection angle and a scattering angle of infrared laser beam. CONSTITUTION: Infrared laser beam is incident into a cold rolled steel sheet. Scattered laser beam is simultaneously measured by means of a reflection angle detector and a scattering angle detector, thereby measuring a surface roughness of the cold rolled steel sheet. A semiconductor infrared laser(10) radiates laser beam and an optical detector(20) and optical fiber(40) receive laser beam. The output of laser beam is monitored by the optical detector(20). Laser beam radiated from the semiconductor infrared laser(10) is transferred to the optical detector and a sample piece(50) in a ratio of 9 : 1. Laser beam scattered by the sample piece(50) is transferred into optical detectors(90,95) through an infrared mirror(60) and lenses(70,80).
