PURPOSE: A function control method for a camera is provided to reduce the cost of the camera, and to improve advertising effect by partially restricting functions of the camera and inputting data for releasing restriction. CONSTITUTION: A camera comprises a CCD(Charge coupled device,201), an image capture circuit(202), a DRAM(203), a memory card(204), a display unit(205), an external connection terminal(206), an operation unit(208), a controller(210), a program ROM(212), a microphone(214), an interface(209), a sound reproducing unit(215), an external device(213), and a timer(211). In the camera which obtains a still image and/or a moving image, at least functions of the camera are previously and partially restricted. To remove the restriction, an operation restriction code (key data) is used. An external input code and the operation restriction code are compared with each other, and the restriction of functions is removed if the input data and the operation restriction code correspond with each other.
