Heating of coke filled plasma-arc furnaces is carried out by three-phase alternating current charged, suspended, graphite electrodes. Arc-light generated by the electrodes is blasted with air or other gases. Coke is additionally heated by Joule-heat due to completion of the electric circuit in the coke-column. Electrodes are placed in close vicinity of the furnace's lining. The thermal efficiency of this system is a substantial improvement on furnaces working with internal-electrode arc-plasma burners. |
