PURPOSE: An air conditioner and the control method are provided to improve user's comfort and energy efficiency by mounting a radiant temperature sensor to the air conditioner. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner includes a radiant temperature sensor(12) measuring the radiant temperature of the room in which the air conditioner is installed, and a microcomputer(13) calculating the sensible temperature of the room through the dry-bulb temperature of the room and the radiant temperature measured trough the radiant temperature sensor, and controlling the drive type of the air conditioner according to the difference of the sensible temperature and the desired temperature set by a user. Accordingly, unnecessary waste of energy is reduced and the room temperature is maintained according to the user's sensible temperature.
