PURPOSE: An adaptive control system of a machine tool and a control method thereof are provided to prevent breakage of a tool or a workpiece and to improve productivity through reduction of working hours by mounting intelligent software. CONSTITUTION: An adaptive control system of a machine tool comprises a load gauge(10) to detect load given to a tool or workpiece; an analog/digital converter(20) converting an analog signal input from the load gauge into a digital signal and outputting; a control unit(30) outputting a control signal to actively cope by decreasing the cutting feeding speed, using the signal input from the analog/digital converter, when load is excessively given to the tool or workpiece; a PLC(Programmable Logic Controller,40) outputting a drive signal according to the control signal of the control unit; and a motor unit(50) controlling the cutting feed speed of the tool or workpiece according to the drive signal. Thus, a sudden load change is prevented in cutting process of the machine tool.
