<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance field emission element for realizing a long life of the element by maintaining an emission current to be equal to or more than a required given value with a simple action. <P>SOLUTION: The field emission element has a cold cathode element 37 including an emitter 19 and extraction electrodes 6. The field emission element is equipped with a plurality of types of cold cathode element group separated based on the emission characteristics of the cold cathode element 37.
