PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively reduce the leakage current of a permanent magnet type synchronous motor of that is lap-wound in two layers for use in an elevator or the like. SOLUTION: In the permanent magnet type synchronous motor, when lap- winding a stator coil in two layers, the stator coil is wound to straddle two teeth. As shown in Figure 2, there are thirty six slots and sixteen poles in this embodiment, as compared with a conventional motor of the same physical structure as this, which needs ninety six slots when it is defined that the number of slots in every phase and for each pole is two. In this way, the number of slots comes down to 1/2.5 (36/96), so that a floating capacity becomes 1/2.5, too, and the leakage current can also be reduced to 1/2.5 or thereabouts.
