PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium capable of improving electromagnetic transducing characteristics without lowering yield ratio. SOLUTION: Before rewinding and cutting, a rolled magnetic recording medium 30 is carried in a temperature controlled chamber 40 in the rolled state, a shaft 44 inserted into the core 42 is suspended by a pair of columnar supports 46 and the medium 30 is subjected to a roughness uniformization treatment by holding at 40°C or at least 7 hrs.
