PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact lens which is excellent in hydrophilic and antifouling properties and makes the dirt, if any, on its surface easily removable. SOLUTION: The contact lens comprises applying a hydrophilic coating liquid containing (A) a hydrophilic graft polymer formed by introducing a hydrophilic polymer side chain into a stem polymer having a functional group reactable with a crosslinking agent and (B) the crosslinking agent to the surface of a base material and forming a hydrophilic layer having a crosslinked structure by heating and drying the coating. A polymeric compound which has a functional group changed in the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties by heat, acid or radiation and has a structure bondable by direct chemical bonding to the surface of the base material exists on the surface of the base material of the above contact lens and the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties are changed by subjecting the prescribed region of the surface to the supply of the heat or acid or the irradiation of the radiation, by which the contact lens is provided with the polymeric compound-containing layer formed with the prescribed hydrophilic and hydrophobic region.
